Saturday: Maldonado and Williams create a surprise
Pastor Maldonado created the surprise of the day in Barcelona by setting a very good time in Q3 to secure second place on the starting grid. His teammate, Bruno Senna, wasn't as lucky; the Brazilian went off the track during Q1 and will start 18th.
Pastor Maldonado – 2nd and Pole Position [after Lewis Hamilton’s demotion]:
We have worked so hard all year to really understand these tires, and with the new developments brought for this race, we’ve made a real step forward. The car is really consistent and the race pace is good, so I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s race. There is really a very good atmosphere in the team and it’s a good result for them and for Venezuela.
Bruno Senna – 14th and 17th [after Lewis Hamilton’s relegation]:
This is obviously a disappointing qualifying session for me and I was unlucky with traffic when I was on soft tires. I have a lot of work to do for tomorrow if I want to score points, but I have had good races here in the past and our car seems competitive this weekend.
