Sunday: HRT achieves its best result in 2012
Seeing the arrival in 19th position, in front of his home crowd, Pedro de la Rosa offers his best result in 2012 to the HRT team. Less fortunate, Narain Karthikeyan was forced to retire after a problem encountered during a pit stop.
Pedro de la Rosa – 19th:
« Running in front of my home crowd is fantastic just like finishing the race is. I am very happy because this is the second home race I have finished in my career, so I am really satisfied. It is true that it is in a modest position, but we gave it everything we had and did what we could. We were ahead of the Marussia at some points and behind at others, but our pace, in general, was not bad. We know we need to keep improving but we are on the right track.
The race was even tougher than I anticipated. We opted for a four-stop strategy and we ended up on the edge because the tires were degrading a lot. The first twenty laps were difficult. The Softs literally disintegrated, but the hard tires held up better and we were able to maintain a better pace, which allowed us to finish in our best position so far this season, in front of our fans.
Narain Karthikeyan – Retirement:
« I encountered some skating issues at the start but it didn’t affect me too much and by the first corner, I was already back behind Pedro. It was the first time I was driving with a full tank this weekend, so with the first set of tires, my goal was to get used to it. On the second set of tires, I did a really good stint and was catching up to Pedro before coming into the pits to switch to hard tires. That’s when my bad luck caught up with me… I hope it doesn’t follow me to Monaco. »
