Sunday: Kobayashi thrilled with his race, Pérez disappointed

Kamui Kobayashi finished in 5th place at the Spanish Grand Prix, and the Japanese driver is delighted with his performance, even though he believes he could have done better without his problem in qualifying yesterday. Sergio Pérez, on the other hand, is disappointed with his collision with Grosjean and having to retire. However, both Sauber drivers are looking forward to Monaco, a track they enjoy.

Kamui Kobayashi – 5th

The team did a great job, and the new features are working well on the car. The race pace was a nice improvement compared to the last race. I really feel that I could have been on the podium today if I hadn’t had so much bad luck yesterday during qualifying. When you start 9th, you have to be happy with finishing 5th, but the car had more potential. I was in traffic, and overtaking wasn’t easy. I couldn’t do it on the straights using DRS because I wasn’t close enough. So I had to take risks and do it in the corners. I damaged my tires a lot in my last stint. The competition is tight right now. If you want to be at the front, you have to get everything right throughout the weekend. That’s what Pastor managed to do. The last time I finished 5th was in Monaco last year, and I’m looking forward to returning to the Principality.

Sergio Pérez – Retirement

« We weren’t very lucky at the start. At the first corner, I managed to pass Romain (Grosjean) but then he touched me and I had to pit on the first lap. We didn’t manage to recover from the back of the pack, and then, I had to retire due to a transmission problem. Whatever it was, it’s over now and I’m going to focus on the next race. Monaco is a very special Grand Prix for me. »
