Schumacher retiring at the end of 2012?
Michael Schumacher could retire at the end of the year, according to what half of the respondents in a German survey believe.
Will Michael Schumacher still be in Formula 1 in 2013? This is the question recently posed by the SID news agency to the Germans, and they largely believe that the seven-time world champion will retire at the end of the season.
Schumacher ended his retirement early in 2010 by joining the Mercedes GP team – now Mercedes AMG – after three years away from F1. At the time, he signed a contract for two years with an option for a third, which will expire at the end of the year.
For the moment, Ross Brawn, the director of the Mercedes AMG team, Nico Rosberg, his teammate, and Dieter Zetsche, the head of Daimler, have recently stated that they would like to see Schumacher continue with Mercedes in F1. However, the person concerned has not wished to express himself clearly on the subject.
The German press agency SID sought to gauge opinions on the future of Schumacher’s career, and 55.4% of respondents believe that Schumacher will retire at the end of the year, while only 26.2% think that the German driver will extend his contract for at least one more season.
