Pirelli chooses its tires for Montreal, Valencia, and Silverstone
Pirelli will offer, in Montreal, the same tires that the teams will have in Monaco (Soft/Super Soft) and will provide its Soft and Medium tires in Valencia. In Great Britain, drivers and teams will have, as in Barcelona, the Soft and Hard tires.
The teams will use the soft P Zero Yellow and the supersoft P Zero Red tires for the Canadian GP in Montreal. In Valencia, the European GP will see the teams using the medium P Zero White and the soft P Zero Yellow tires. Finally, for the British Grand Prix in July, Pirelli will provide the hard P Zero Silver and the soft P Zero Yellow compounds.
The Montreal circuit is a narrow and winding track, an ideal location for the two softest compounds in the Pirelli range, which were previously used at the Monaco Grand Prix. Valencia is also a street circuit, but higher temperatures and greater speed mean that the medium and soft compounds are more suitable there. Finally, Silverstone is one of the fastest tracks of the season, and a significant gap between the soft and hard compounds will provide teams with great strategic opportunities while offering durability and performance.
The 2012 regulations stipulate that, under normal circumstances, each team receives six sets of the hardest compound and five sets of the softest compound over the race weekend, with these sets now able to be used at any time starting from the free practice sessions. Pirelli will also offer, as usual, the Cinturato Green intermediate tire for mixed wet conditions (4 sets per driver) and the Cinturato Blue rain compound (3 sets per driver) at each race.
