10-place grid penalty for Maldonado
Pastor Maldonado received a 10-place grid penalty following his collision with Sergio Pérez during free practice 3 this morning.
The stewards of the Monaco Grand Prix have decided to impose a 10-place grid penalty on Pastor Maldonado. The Venezuelan driver overtook Sergio Pérez, who had moved aside at the Portier corner, but Maldonado rejoined too quickly and collided with the Mexican driver’s Sauber, notably damaging the front wing.
The maneuver of the Williams driver was not correct, and the stewards have therefore decided to penalize the Venezuelan driver. Maldonado experienced a complicated third practice session with this collision followed by an accident for turning too early at the casino corner, which sent him into the TecPro on the other side, thus ripping off the rear-left part of his FW34.
It is therefore a day to forget for him because even if the Williams team mechanics manage to repair his car in time to allow him to participate in qualifying, he already knows that securing a good spot on the grid will be difficult.
