Saturday: Toro Rosso hopes for rain for the race

Starting 16th and 15th tomorrow, the Toro Rosso team cannot be completely satisfied. In fact, both drivers regret not having managed the perfect lap on the streets of Monaco. Jean-Eric Vergne tried to push to the limit but attacked a bit too much, leading to a mistake. The Frenchman believes that 12th place was achievable in Q2 today. Meanwhile, they hope that rain will reshuffle the deck and reduce their handicap in tomorrow's race.

Saturday: Toro Rosso hopes for rain for the race

Daniel Ricciardo – 14th and 16th (15th on the grid):

« I love this track and I’m very disappointed with my qualifying position because I think I had a chance to do better. The top 10 was maybe optimistic but I believe 12th was achievable. However, we didn’t manage that. I was relatively happy with my driving but I didn’t succeed in putting all my best sectors together in one lap. I think I over-drove at times and made a few mistakes. If I had completed the perfect lap, maybe I would have gained a few tenths. It’s difficult to overtake here, but we’ll try to do our best tomorrow. The first lap will be a balance between keeping the car on the track and gaining positions. Who knows, maybe a little rain will help us. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – 11th and 17th (16th on the grid):

I expected better because my lap in Q1 was far from perfect and I think I would have done well in Q2 but I ended up in the wall on my first attempt. I believe I turned on the bump coming out of the tunnel and then hit the outer rail which damaged the nose and the right rear suspension, and I couldn’t continue. Let’s wait and see what we can do in the race because anything can happen. Before this afternoon’s incident, I felt good here and I still hope to have a good race tomorrow, maybe with a bit of rain to create interesting situations.
