Saturday: the two Caterham drivers outpace a Toro Rosso
Despite his accident during Free Practice 1, Heikki Kovalainen did not suffer as much as he might have expected and outpaced his teammate, Vitaly Petrov, who was hoping for better. However, both men can be satisfied with outpacing Jean-Eric Vergne in his Toro Rosso.
Heikki Kovalainen – 18th and 18th:
« I am satisfied with today’s performance. I made a small mistake in the last chicane during my final lap, which may have cost me a few tenths, but it wouldn’t have changed my position, and honestly, I probably got everything I could out of the car today.
Yesterday’s accident could have cost us a bit, but the guys did a fantastic job repairing the car, so we didn’t lose any performance and I was 100% confident about being able to push today.
Track conditions have changed a bit compared to yesterday, so in Free Practice 3 we had to work to deal with the oversteer caused by the warmer conditions, and tomorrow it will be even hotter, so I think we are in good shape to fight with some cars ahead of us.
Vitaly Petrov – 17th and 19th:
« I am not at all happy with where we ended up today. In Free Practice 3, the car was behaving very well and I was quite confident I could beat my teammate today, but the temperatures rose between Free Practice 3 and the start of Q1 and maybe we could have found that little thing that would have helped us better manage the change in conditions.
Despite that, it was a positive weekend so far and I know we will be stronger tomorrow, so let’s hope we have a solid race and can continue with our momentum.
