Sunday: Pérez, the repeat offender, sends Sauber to the podium!

What a race for Sauber, proving once again that its car is capable of a lot with economical strategies. Starting 15th, Sergio Pérez clinched the podium, his second of the season and his career. Meanwhile, Kamui Kobayashi had to settle for points, less fortunate than his Mexican teammate in terms of strategy.

Sunday: Pérez, the repeat offender, sends Sauber to the podium!

Sergio Pérez – 3rd

When you start 15th and there’s no rain or chaos, you can’t really expect to finish on the podium. We were quite aggressive today. The strategy and the pit stop were very good and I was able to overtake a few cars. I saw that, for me, tire degradation wasn’t bad and it allowed me to manage my pace quite well. We have a fast car but, since Malaysia, we’ve been unlucky for one reason or another, and yesterday we had a disappointing qualifying again. Today’s result is a reward for the guys who work hard. The last time I scored points, I was also on the podium and I think it’s a nice way to achieve that. It’s also particularly good to be at the podium ceremony here in Montreal because we’re not far from my country and there are a lot of Mexicans here. It’s a big boost for the team and I’m very happy for everyone.

Kamui Kobayashi – 9th

« My car was good today and the team deserves this good result. For me, we had planned for two stops, but it turned out that only one stop was possible and even faster. I started on super soft tires and, after my stop, I did 46 laps on a set of soft tires. I had a good rhythm when the tires were in good shape, but in the end, it wasn’t easy. Nevertheless, for me, the most difficult thing was the traffic and, I think that, under these circumstances, ninth place was the maximum starting from the 11th position on the grid. »
