Sunday: Grosjean and Lotus one step away from consecration
On a circuit he didn't know from Eve or Adam before this weekend, Romain Grosjean delivered a remarkable race performance, which allowed him, thanks to a one-stop strategy, to finish on the podium. Eighth at the finish, Kimi Räikkönen also climbed up the pack but believes he could have done better.
Romain Grosjean – 2nd:
« It was a great day for the team. It was an incredible race, and the one-stop strategy worked perfectly for us. It wasn’t an easy race, but we wanted to be aggressive to achieve a good result.
The qualifying sessions had been a bit disappointing, but we learned a lot between Friday and Saturday, and today we are reaping the fruits of those lessons.
It wasn’t easy to manage the second set of tires for so long, but it worked, so I would gladly do it again to achieve the same result as today. It’s fantastic to finish in second place for my first visit to Montreal, hopefully, I’ll finish first on my next visit.
I would like to thank the entire team for the incredible work they accomplished this weekend.
Kimi Räikkönen – 8th:
The car was a little better in the race than in qualifying. I felt like I was stuck behind some drivers at times. The DRS zone isn’t very long and it’s always a tough battle if the car in front of you is also using DRS.
We had the opportunity to do a little better, but not everything worked out completely today. We scored points again, and that’s always a good thing, especially this season.
The qualifications weren’t perfect, so obviously it leaves us with more work to do. If we start a little further ahead, it’s easier to finish well placed. We will try to do that in the next race.
