Force India must improve quickly

In absolute terms, with 28 points, Force India’s start to the season is not bad. The team even has nearly three times more points after seven races in 2012 than they did at the same stage last season… But against Sauber, which has secured two podiums, and Williams, which has found its way back to victory, the level of the midfield has significantly improved compared to 2011.

« We had our best start to the season in terms of points scored, but the teams around us also achieved exceptional performances, » analyzes the team boss, Vijay Mallya.

Therefore, the Indian team will need to raise its performance level if it wants to climb up the rankings and achieve the goals it set before the start of the championship.

« I believe that Canada has shown, once again, that it is difficult to make predictions in Formula 1 at the moment. It is really very competitive with seven different winners in as many races. We therefore still need to raise our game, especially if we want to achieve our goal, which is to finish fifth or sixth in the Constructors’ Championship, » explains Vijay Mallya.

Paul di Resta was on the verge of achieving a great performance in Canada as he was fifth before encountering problems and dropping out of the top 10. « We were disappointed but the positive aspect is that we had a competitive car all weekend. We looked at the problems we had in the race and we think we have figured out how to resolve them, » relativizes Mallya.

With the start of the season we’ve had so far, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Indian team also make it to the podium, especially considering that in recent championships, the Force India team has often progressed steadily and finished the season better than it started.
