Friday: Rewarding day for Mercedes
Mercedes is playing at home this weekend. Nico Rosberg showed strong performance this afternoon by achieving the second-fastest time, but the German will be penalized 5 places due to a gearbox change. Michael Schumacher ended the day in the wall, causing the second session of the day to be stopped.
Nico Rosberg – 7th and 2nd:
We learned a lot today given that we were able to drive in different track conditions and use rain, intermediate, and slick tires. Therefore, I suppose we are well prepared, no matter what the rest of the weekend holds for us. Unfortunately, we have to change my gearbox as a precaution after discovering a problem after Silverstone. So I will receive a 5-place penalty which is a shame for our home race, but I will push to the maximum to achieve a good result. As we have seen this season, a lot can happen during a race.
Michael Schumacher – 4th and 23rd:
« The way I finished the second session was obviously not planned, and I am sorry for making this mistake that gives my mechanics more work. I simply slid because I was a bit distracted: we were talking on the radio, and I was making some adjustments at the same time. But that’s part of the game. Overall, the tests went well even though we didn’t run much in the morning because the conditions were too variable. I think the qualifying will probably take place in the wet tomorrow, so today’s weather was useful. »
