Saturday: Saubers uncomfortable in the rain
The Sauber drivers did not manage to do well today at Hockenheim during the qualifying due to the rain. Sergio Pérez and Kamui Kobayashi will start nonetheless not far from the top 10, and given the performance of the C31 in dry conditions, they are quite optimistic for the Grand Prix.
Sergio Pérez – 3rd and 12th [17th after a penalty]:
It’s really a shame. It seemed very promising for us before the rain came. After my switch to the Softs, I finished second in Q1. Then we went out late in Q2 with the intermediates, and I was stuck in traffic. I had cars in front of me, but I couldn’t leave a gap because there were others behind me as well.
Kamui Kobayashi – 9th and 13th [12th on the grid]:
It’s a shame because I’m convinced that with a dry track, we could have easily been in Q3, as we had a good pace. I even gave up using the Soft tires, and the lap I did with the Mediums was enough to be in Q2. But then in the rain, we didn’t succeed. On the dry, my car is really very good. In the rain, it was much better than Friday when I really struggled. We found something that wasn’t right and made some changes, but it still wasn’t quite there.
