Saturday: Schumacher Delights Mercedes at Home
Michael Schumacher managed to stand out today in front of his home crowd. The Mercedes driver will start from 3rd place on the grid tomorrow for his home Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg, on the other hand, struggled with his tires in the rain and will start from the back, but he hopes to climb up and score some points.
Michael Schumacher – 15th and 4th [3rd on the grid]:
It’s clearly a great way to start the German Grand Prix – we expected to be between 5th and 7th on the grid, so 4th in qualifying, which will become a 3rd place on the grid, is even better. Naturally, I am particularly pleased for all our Mercedes colleagues present in the stands: they support us throughout the year, and we want to give something back to them. In any case, I am happy with this result. Maybe I could have done a little better by switching to a new set of tires towards the end, but I don’t think we could have done better today. We must now fully focus on tomorrow’s race. We know the track should be dry tomorrow, and we should be more competitive than at Silverstone.
Nico Rosberg – 17th and 17th [21st on the grid after a penalty]:
« It was a bit surprising to finish so far back in qualifying today, but unfortunately, I didn’t manage to properly heat up my first set of intermediate tires in Q2, so I was several seconds off the best times. Yesterday, I was quite confident in both wet and dry conditions, so it’s frustrating, especially with my penalty from a gearbox change. But I still think I can score points tomorrow because a lot of things are possible in races this year. So I’ll give it my all in front of our fans here. »
