Sunday: Complicated weekend concluded with a point for Mercedes
The Mercedes team had a difficult weekend in Hungary, not on pace, yet the Silver Arrows still managed to earn a point thanks to Nico Rosberg. Michael Schumacher, on the other hand, experienced a nightmarish race with a problem at the start, followed by a penalty and then a puncture. An abandonment eventually ended his ordeal. Both Mercedes AMG drivers hope to come back stronger in a month at Spa-Francorchamps.
Nico Rosberg – 10th:
We had a difficult weekend here in Budapest, and we simply weren’t fast enough. In today’s race, I got a good start and was able to gain three places at the finish, so we did our maximum. Being happy with one point is not an ideal situation though. We need to find out why we are not on the pace right now. I hope we can do better at Spa after the break, and we will work hard to improve if needed.
Michael Schumacher – Withdrawal
Today, it was one of those races you don’t dwell on for very long. Our engine temperatures were very high before the start, and when the yellow lights appeared, I switched off the engine. Then I started from the pit lane, received a penalty, and subsequently suffered a puncture. So overall, the start of the race wasn’t very pleasant for us. Everything we didn’t need happened at the same time. We completely lost telemetry before the start and during the overheating, which is why we ultimately decided to retire to avoid risking damage that could have complicated things for us in the next race. Now, we will be able to thoroughly check the car before the break and Spa. This weekend doesn’t need to stay in memory, but it’s the kind of weekend that you can only accept. I’m convinced we’ll be in much better shape for the upcoming races.
