Bruno Senna is a serene driver
Put under pressure by his team and by the performances achieved by Valtteri Bottas during the Free Practice 1 sessions of the Grand Prix, Bruno Senna is relying on his strong Hungarian performance to maintain his employer's confidence for as long as possible.
Bruno Senna is a calm man. While many rumors suggest that he might be replaced by Valtteri Bottas before the end of the season, the Brazilian believes he has given the best response; on the track.
In Hungary, he was more competitive than his teammate during practice sessions before ending up just behind him in qualifying. Nevertheless, Senna could be satisfied with his first Top 10 in this exercise given the good race pace he generally displayed on Sundays. And he did not disappoint by scoring six points, thus bringing his total to 24 points compared to 29 for his teammate, who won in Spain. Enough to go on vacation with peace of mind.
« The only reason we scored big points is because we qualified well and we need to continue like this. Everyone needs opportunities to improve. I need that to grow with the team. This is probably the closest Formula 1 season in years. With a tenth of a second, you can gain 5 or 6 positions, » analyzes the Brazilian driver.
After a particularly difficult season, Williams managed to reassess and develop a single-seater that performs well on most of the championship tracks. In races, Senna often appeared more comfortable compared to time trials.
« In the race, I think I did well this season. As I said, improving qualifications will be the key to ensuring I stay next year and hopefully, in the years to come. »
If performances like the ones in Hungary don’t guarantee Senna to keep his seat next year, they can only increase his chances. He will need to continue down this path starting at Spa-Francorchamps, where he had a great qualifying last year driving the Lotus-Renault.
« I think we had a good weekend (in Hungary) and it’s important to continue in this direction. I have nothing to fear now. I’m learning, improving, and in the second half of the season, I will have more experience, » explains Senna.
