Sergio Pérez wants to press Ferrari
Often mentioned as a potential teammate for Fernando Alonso at Ferrari in 2013, Sergio Pérez hopes to quickly find out about the feasibility of such a transfer.
Many drivers have been mentioned as potential replacements for Felipe Massa at Ferrari in 2013, with Mark Webber and Jenson Button leading the list, but both men have extended their contracts with their respective teams, Red Bull and McLaren.
Another driver has often been mentioned, and for good reason, he is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, the program for young drivers set up by Scuderia Ferrari a few years ago: Sergio Pérez. The Mexican driver, currently with Sauber, has made a clear overture to Ferrari to clarify his chances of joining the Scuderia in 2013: « It has been a very demanding season so far, but soon I will have to start thinking about my future. If there is an opportunity with them (Ferrari) or another team, then now is the time to know. »
Even though some believe that young Pérez, who is only in his second F1 season, might still be a bit “too green” to drive for Ferrari, he believes he has proven his worth this season – with notably two podiums, in Malaysia and Canada: « I will have to assess what my options are, and then I will make my decision. But I think I have done a really good job this season. I have proven that I am fast and consistent as well. »
