Force India now focuses its resources on 2013

While the leading teams, competing for drivers’ and constructors’ championships, are doubling their efforts to evolve their cars as the 2012 season confirms, race after race, that development will be one of the keys to ultimate success, some teams are already looking towards 2013, starting with Force India: « From now on, development will be directed towards next year. For a team of our size, it is not possible to evolve the current car beyond this point in the season. Therefore, we can only seek to optimize the resources we have available to us, » explained Andy Green, the technical director of the Indian team, before leaving Hungary.

If it is currently occupying the eighth rank in the constructors’ standings, but with 20 points more in its pocket than in 2011, at the same time, the Indian team remains ambitious for the end of the season as it is less than 7 points from Williams and 34 behind Sauber: « For now, I believe our objective should be sixth place because it’s a realistic result, » estimates Andy Green. « We know it will be difficult because the teams ahead of us are all competitive, but we can only try and see how it ends. However, for now, we are quite pleased to have scored more points than last year. »

By focusing on 2013, the Silverstone team risks watching Williams and Sauber stabilize or even strengthen their lead, but can also take solace in the slim chances of Toro Rosso contesting their eighth place, as the Italian team, with 6 points in the constructors’ standings, has 40 fewer than Force India and hasn’t shown the necessary potential to make up such a deficit. However, since the 2013 regulations are not fundamentally different from those in 2012, any advances for 2013 could bear fruit as early as 2012.
