Räikkönen takes the good side of F1
Two years in the WRC have not changed Kimi Räikkönen, who maintains his legendary composure and disdain for anything unrelated to driving a Formula 1 car. But the Finn approaches the non-sporting aspects of his job with philosophy and a touch of humor.
Before the start of the season, one of the questions observers were asking was how long it would take Kimi Räikkönen to return to his best form. At the mid-season review, the answer is: not long.
With five podiums to his name, Iceman is 48 points behind Fernando Alonso, and if the upcoming races are similar to the previous ones, he could well be a contender for the world crown.
Räikkönen quickly returned to the level he had before leaving the F1 paddocks. An environment that hasn’t changed much in two years according to the Finn. “Nothing has changed for me. Well, the team is different. It’s good to be with Lotus. The team is more relaxed. They want to win, but the atmosphere is different from other teams. I have no complaints,” explains the 2007 world champion to the site Totalrace.br.
We know it, the Finnish driver is not a big fan of anything unrelated to driving and would gladly skip press interviews: « There are always the same questions, nothing has changed,» jokes the Lotus driver. «I know what’s happening in F1, I’ve been here long enough to understand all the mess surrounding the sport. People try to invent stories. I don’t care. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes not, but I don’t worry about it. You have to do your job and not worry about things that might put you in a bad mood, which doesn’t help. I live my life as relaxed as possible.»
Currently on a break, the championship will resume at the end of the month with the first free practice sessions of the Belgian Grand Prix, where the Lotus and its Finnish driver are considered favorites. But as we know, this season nothing is ever guaranteed.
