Alonso: “Difficult to say if Kubica will be able to come back”
In the September issue of F1 Racing magazine, Fernando Alonso talks about Robert Kubica and believes that it is still difficult today to comment on the potential return of the Pole to competition.
For some time now, the name Robert Kubica has not appeared in Formula 1 news. The Polish driver, injured in a rally event before the 2011 season, is continuing his rehabilitation, but for Fernando Alonso, it is still difficult to say whether he will be able to return to F1 one day.
It is in the September edition of the magazine F1 Racing that the current championship leader discusses the situation of his Polish friend. « It’s really difficult to say if Robert will be able to return to 100% of his capacities and be capable of racing in Formula 1 again. I know how hard it is for him to be away like this from what has always been his world, » explains the Ferrari driver.
During the 2011 season, the question of Kubica’s possible return came up regularly, and during the off-season, it was at Ferrari that they considered the possibility of seeing the Pole again. But today, when drawing up a list of possible candidates for Felipe Massa’s seat, the name of the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner no longer appears. “He needs to stay calm and focus on fully recovering first; then he can think about racing again,” adds Alonso.
At the moment, not knowing how his rehabilitation is going and whether he is regaining motor skills in his hand, it is obviously very difficult to say if we will ever see Kubica on a starting grid again.
