Marussia will have the Williams KERS in 2013
The Marussia F1 Team will use a KERS on board their F1 cars for the first time in 2013, as announced by the Russian team's consultant, Pat Symonds.
The Marussia team is one of the two teams on the Formula 1 World Championship grid this season without a KERS on board their cars, along with HRT, but this will change in 2013.
Pat Symonds, technical consultant to the Russian team, announced in an interview published by the team that Marussia drivers would have a KERS from 2013: « Yes, we will use KERS next year. We plan to use the system that was developed by Williams, which was used by them with the Cosworth engine last year and is currently used with their Renault engine. Our unit for 2013 will be a development of this one. »
Symonds also expressed his delight with this partnership with Williams: “We have been very impressed by the engineering, efficiency, and weight of the system. It’s also a pleasure to work with Williams from both a technical and commercial perspective.”
The interview with Pat Symonds also revealed that the Marussia team should retain a Cosworth engine in 2013: « We are happy with the work we are doing with them (Cosworth), and I believe we are working well together to improve the areas where we can do so given the regulations. We focus on improving the engine’s drivability as well as its performance as a part of the car. »
