Grosjean: “Strengthening ties with the engineers”

The least we can say is that this Friday wasn't particularly productive for the different Formula 1 teams. At Lotus, Romain Grosjean didn't do much driving but took advantage of the rainy weather to spend time with his engineers, a good way to strengthen bonds.

Grosjean: “Strengthening ties with the engineers”

« My seat still suits me, I feel good in the car, » jokes Grosjean in front of the French-speaking press at the end of an unproductive day.

« We did some aerodynamic tests this morning, what we could do in these conditions. Unfortunately, the rain didn’t want to stop in the afternoon. We hesitated at one point to go for a start test at the end of the session, but in the end, we decided to wait for tomorrow. As curious as it may seem, good weather is forecasted for tomorrow, so there wasn’t really any interest in running today. »

A rainy day somewhat disrupts Lotus’s plans to test their double DRS system once more. Nevertheless, it should be installed on the E20 tomorrow morning before a decision is made for the rest of the weekend.:« We’ll see what we do tomorrow. Let’s hope the car surprises us right from the start of Free Practice 3 to have a good qualifying and a good race. We should have 17 degrees tomorrow, which is not bad for the region, and on Sunday we might even have 21 degrees, so some sunshine and conditions that should be pretty good for the Grand Prix. »

Normally, the double DRS will be tested on one car and not on the other tomorrow morning, then we will make the decision for the race and it is not impossible for one car to have a different configuration from the other. Kimi has already tested the double DRS so I think if one car has to run with it, it will be him, now if there is another novelty during the season it will be for me, explains Grosjean.

If the wait may seem long for the spectators around the circuit, for the drivers, not racing doesn’t only have disadvantages: « I think it strengthens the bonds with the team. We spent 1.5 hours with my four engineers talking about everything and nothing, making jokes. They’re stopping in Chamonix between here and Monza, so they asked me what there is to do. In the end, we shared little anecdotes about things to do in the area. »
