Grosjean summoned to the stewards at Spa

Before the race, Romain Grosjean explained that things always went a bit crazy at Spa, and therefore the qualifying result wasn’t necessarily a surprise. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, crazy things can also happen during the race.

When the lights went out, Romain Grosjean attempted to find his way through the pack but ended up hitting Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren before the first corner. As a result, the Lotus spun out and crashed directly into Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari. Viewed from the onboard camera of the Ferrari, the incident is striking. Another victim of this chaotic start was Sergio Pérez in the Sauber.

« The main thing is that everyone is safe and sound, that’s the most important for me, » reacted the Lotus driver to Sky Sports.

Upon exiting his completely wrecked car, Lewis Hamilton gestured towards Grosjean to express his displeasure with the Frenchman’s maneuver. After the race, the Frenchman was summoned by the stewards to explain this incident. The decision is expected around 5 p.m., but until then, neither the team nor the driver wishes to comment.

For his part, Sergio Pérez explained: I was at the first braking in turn 1 and then suddenly I was hit by another driver. There was nothing I could do. We are paying for someone else’s mistake.

Kamui Kobayashi didn’t have much luck either as his car was smoking quite worryingly at the moment of setting off, which was overshadowed by the accident in which he was a collateral victim. The Japanese driver finished the race in 13th position.
