D’Ambrosio is ready to get into the Lotus

The misfortunes of some make the happiness of others, as they say. Thus, the penalty received by Romain Grosjean should allow Jérôme D'Ambrosio to participate in the Italian Grand Prix next week, even though the Belgian would have preferred to be promoted under different circumstances.

D’Ambrosio is ready to get into the Lotus

Following the sanction imposed on Romain Grosjean for his involvement in the start-line crash at the Belgian Grand Prix, the Lotus team will have to find a second driver to drive the E20 at Monza next weekend.

There shouldn’t be any big surprise since Jérôme D’Ambrosio, the third driver of the Enstone team, is at the top of the list. “There is an 80 percent chance,” declares Eric Boullier to the RTBF (Belgian public television). It’s true that D’Ambrosio is very involved in the team as he is present at all the Grand Prix and thus participates in various briefings and debriefings since Melbourne, so he knows the team’s working methods well. And since it will be a one-off race, it would be surprising for Lotus to look elsewhere.

The decision has not yet been officially announced by the team and as Boullier points out with a touch of humor, he has until Thursday evening to do it.

On his part, the Belgian driver, whom Motors Inside met this morning in the Spa paddock, says he is ready to step in for the forced absence of Romain Grosjean during the Italian Grand Prix, the 13th round of the season.

« It’s been part of my job since the beginning of the year to be ready no matter what happens. I am ready, very motivated. In any case, I will try to do my best to stay “up to date,” and then we’ll see. It’s still very new, I don’t know exactly what will happen. In any case, if I need to get in the car, I will be super motivated and I will be there, » declared the Belgian driver to the RTBF.
