Saturday: No surprises for Caterham

As usual, the Caterham drivers were the best among the three teams at the back of the grid. Heikki Kovalainen thus believes it was difficult to hope for better than 18th place, while Vitaly Petrov thought he could have done better without some brake issues.

Saturday: No surprises for Caterham

Heikki Kovalainen – 19th and 18th [17th on the grid]:

« It was quite a calm qualifying session for me today. The car seemed well-balanced all day, and although we were ahead of one of the Lotuses after the first stint, we knew it would be difficult to get into Q2.

On the second set of tires, I wasn’t really able to get the most out of them, so I think I did the best that was possible. That said, the performance is much better here than at Spa and we are back to the level where we expect to be.

Now, we need to keep pushing from here, learn as much as we can about what went wrong in Belgium, make sure to have a good race on Sunday, and then maintain the pace for Singapore.

Vitaly Petrov – 20th and 19th [18th on the grid]:

« I was happy with the car today and it’s good that we clearly made progress between Free Practice 1 and 3. In qualifying, I couldn’t push as much as I would have liked: the brakes were fine in Free Practice 3, but I couldn’t attack the braking zones as hard as I could during the third practice session, so maybe that’s where we lost a bit of time.

However, tomorrow is another day and we will do our best to have a good race after finding ourselves a little further back than we should have been.
