Charles Pic at the center of rumors for 2013
Of the three Frenchmen involved this season, he is undoubtedly the most discreet, but that doesn't stop Charles Pic from being regularly mentioned in the transfer market for next season.
Arrived at Marussia with the label of paid driver, Charles Pic quickly managed to make people forget that his seat was funded by Lagardère by showing good skills and getting closer and closer to his teammate whom he has been outperforming for a few Grand Prix races, which doesn’t seem to please Glock, who has committed to the small team in the long term.
The future of Pic, on the other hand, is relatively open for the 2013 season. Marussia may be tempted to keep him – which would be a first since the team arrived in 2010 under the name Virgin – but the Russian team would not be the only option for the young French driver.
During the Spa-Francorchamps weekend, some rumors were circulating in the paddock that Pic was on the lists of the Force India and Sauber teams that could see a seat become available next season. However, in Italy, a fourth possibility emerged: Caterham. Indeed, the new sponsor of the team led by Tony Fernandes – EADS – counts the Lagardère group among its shareholders. Furthermore, some rumors suggest Heikki Kovalainen could move to Ferrari, opening a potential spot for the Frenchman to join the green team. Unless it is Vitaly Petrov who ends up elsewhere.
When asked about the numerous speculations regarding his future, Pic replied: “I am focused on what I have to do to extract 100% of my car’s potential. Obviously, the future is open and Olivier Panis and Didier Cotton, who look after me, are discussing with teams but it’s normal at this stage of the season. We will see.”
Anyway, it seems that Charles Pic will still be on the starting grid in 2013. The question is which single-seater he will be driving, and if we are to believe the rumors, he has plenty of choices.
