Vettel would not be afraid to team up with Alonso

Although Flavio Briatore claims he would never pair Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso within the same team, the double world champion is not as categorical. The German, however, emphasizes that he is happy with Red Bull and intends to beat Alonso and Ferrari by the end of the season.

Vettel would not be afraid to team up with Alonso

Since Luca di Montezemolo subtly presented Sebastian Vettel as the ideal candidate for a seat at Ferrari, some are dreaming of a partnership between the German driver and Fernando Alonso, who is under contract with the Italian team until 2016. However, Flavio Briatore responded by asserting that he would never pair Sebastian Vettel with Fernando Alonso unless it is decided that drivers can jointly win the championship.

In any case, the interest shown by Maranello in the double German world champion is nothing new. Indeed, Sebastian Vettel has recently been the subject of speculations – denied by both parties – sending him to Ferrari after the end of the contract currently binding him to Red Bull. However, in the columns of Auto Bild, and contrary to Flavio Briatore, the young German does not think that cohabitation with the Spaniard is impossible: « I am not afraid of facing Fernando in the same team because in the end, it’s good for the team to have two good drivers, which implies that it’s also good for me because the challenge is greater. »

The German insists, however, that he is happy with Red Bull and adds: “I’m not thinking about leaving at all.” As it stands, the two drivers will therefore remain, for the moment, mere rivals, and while the Spaniard currently leads the drivers’ standings with a 39-point lead over the German, the latter has no intention of giving up: “His car is not as bad as people say; it was only at the beginning of the season that it wasn’t really competitive. In the end, they have always been there in all circumstances, and they are very reliable, which explains, in my opinion, why the Alonso/Ferrari partnership has been the strongest so far. Of course, it’s always better to have points ahead, but the approach remains the same: you always want to get the best out of yourself and the team. If being in the hunter’s position makes you put in more effort, it’s not a good sign because it means you weren’t working hard enough before. The goal is to win all the races and see what happens.”
