Singapore – Free Practice 3: Winning Trio for Vettel

The sun is still present as the lights turn green in the pit lane. Vergne, Ricciardo, Karthikeyan, di Resta, and Senna are the first to hit the track for an installation lap.

It’s Kamui Kobayashi at the wheel of his Sauber who registers his name on the timing sheet first during this session with a 1:56.339. The Japanese driver is quickly beaten by his teammate, Sergio Pérez, and then by Kimi Räikkönen with a 1:52.594. The Finnish driver was not fully satisfied with the behavior of his Lotus yesterday, so there’s no lack of work for the Enstonne team.

On the other hand, everything is going well at McLaren, and Button takes the best time by improving the Finnish driver’s lap by more than a second, while his teammate has a slight scare in the first sector of the circuit. Sergio Pérez also crosses the limit in the tunnel but it’s more fear than harm, the C31 can continue its route.

Force India shifts into high gear after about twenty minutes with Hülkenberg placing his VJM05 in second position. 1:50.804 for the German behind Lewis Hamilton who completes a lap in 1:50.730.

At mid-session, Sebastian Vettel sets off for a timed lap, the RB8 was very fast yesterday, and the double world champion is the clear favorite for the continuation of the hostilities. Despite a yellow flag, caused by a misjudgment from Tim Glock, Vettel manages to secure the second-fastest time of the session.

In the last quarter of an hour, it’s Vettel who leads the operations with a 1:49.614 while his teammate suffers a minor collision in the tunnel. The session is over for the Australian, whose right rear tire is punctured, and whose suspension needs to be checked. Meanwhile, Bruno Senna in his Williams is in second place.

But things will speed up in the final minutes of this session. Fernando Alonso dislodges Bruno Senna, followed by Kimi Räikkönen who is nine-tenths off Vettel, who holds a time of 1:47.947, which is better than yesterday.

At the very end of the session, Vitaly Petrov causes the red flag following an off-track incident at Turn 21. The Caterham driver hits the wall and breaks his suspension before abandoning his car at the entrance of the pit lane. The session will not resume, and Sebastian Vettel is once again the fastest for the third time this weekend. The Red Bull driver leads Hamilton, Alonso, Hülkenberg, and Räikkönen.
