The Caterham F1 team announced yesterday the arrival of a new member to their team, the Frenchman Cyril Abiteboul, who joins as Executive Director.
Cyril Abiteboul was appointed head of Caterham F1 this Friday in Singapore. The Frenchman, who is currently one of the managers of Renault Sport F1, will share his time between Caterham and Renault until January 2013 in order to fully dedicate himself to the Leafield team from that date onwards.
Riad Asmat, who will be Cyril Abiteboul’s direct superior as CEO of Caterham Group, expressed his delight at the arrival of this new member in the statement released by the team: “I am delighted that Cyril has accepted our offer to join us as Executive Director of the Caterham F1 team and I am sure that his arrival will have an immediate positive effect on our constant development and growth as one of the forces in Formula 1.”
Same satisfaction with the arrival of Cyril Abiteboul on the side of Tony Fernandes, the head of the Malaysian team: Cyril’s arrival is good news for our Formula 1 team. As an executive director, he will be in charge of our F1 operations and work closely with Riad, who can now fully focus on the development of the Caterham group […]. Cyril will also strengthen the excellent collaboration we have with Renault, especially regarding the introduction of the new engine regulations in 2014 when engines will play an even bigger role in the overall performance of the car.
Cyril Abiteboul also expressed his delight at being chosen to take on a new challenge with the Caterham team: “I am obviously happy to join this team which is only in its third year, and I would like to thank Tony, Kamarudin, and Riad for this fantastic opportunity. The vision, enthusiasm, and appetite of the shareholders and the entire team will be a very valuable asset to help us tackle the many challenges ahead as we continue to develop our F1 platform and hope that we can be better positioned in the hierarchy.”
