Mercedes would have finally signed the Concorde Agreements
The Mercedes AMG team has reportedly finally signed the future Concorde Agreements that will govern Formula 1 for the 2013 to 2020 seasons, thus clarifying its future in Formula 1.
Mercedes was one of the few teams not yet to have signed the future Concorde Agreements, along with Marussia, but the German team is said to have finally reached an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone to sign the document that outlines how Formula 1 will be conducted and how the profits will be distributed between 2013 and 2020.
These new Concorde Agreements offer financial advantages to teams that have won constructors’ championships and those that have not changed their names since 2000, which is not the case for Mercedes, who bought Brawn GP in 2010. However, the German manufacturer was still expecting to gain an advantage due to its involvement as an engine supplier for over 15 years.
The Stuttgart manufacturer had even threatened to leave Formula 1, but according to sources cited by The F1 Times, Mercedes has reportedly reached an agreement at the Singapore Grand Prix, so the Silver Arrows are expected to remain on the Formula 1 grid at least until 2020.
The British site also indicates that an official confirmation of the signing of the Concorde Agreements by all teams could come in the next few weeks, which would mean that Marussia has also reached an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone to sign the Concorde Agreements.
