Ross Brawn: “Everything will become clear” concerning Hamilton and Schumacher
The director of the Mercedes AMG team does not hide the interest he might have in Lewis Hamilton, even if he refuses to confirm or deny the rumors sending the Briton to Brackley in 2013. Ross Brawn also states that discussions are still ongoing with Schumacher regarding his future at Mercedes, which might, however, not depend solely on him.
While The Guardian reports that McLaren has reportedly increased its offer to convince Lewis Hamilton to stay with the team, Ross Brawn, director of the Mercedes team, responded to questions regarding Lewis Hamilton, the main figure of this transfer season so far: “Any ambitious team seeks to have top drivers and we are an ambitious team, but I think there is a lot of speculation,” said the Briton on the air of BBC Radio 5 live before adding that Lewis Hamilton “is a very good driver.”
The Briton therefore does not intend to confirm or deny the rumors sending the Stevenage native to Mercedes, only stating: « We will have some things to say in the coming weeks, in the coming months, and then everything will become clear. » However, this contradicts the current reports suggesting a quick resolution of the Hamilton case, unless it actually confirms the current trend that we will see a status quo at McLaren where Lewis Hamilton would continue his adventure beyond 2012.
Ross Brawn also commented on the future of Michael Schumacher, about whom Bernie Ecclestone mentioned that the German himself did not yet know what it held. In any case, the director of the Mercedes AMG team seems determined to allow the forty-something driver time for reflection, even if he hints that the final decision might not be solely up to him: « It’s still under discussion, I’m afraid. I can’t say too much, but Michael has been an enormous asset for the team. He really drives us forward. I think Michael contributes enormously, so I think his decision to continue or not (his career, editor’s note) is difficult. Obviously, he is very involved in this decision and discussions are ongoing. »
