Alguersuari is no longer so sure about his return in 2013
After recently assuring that he would be back in Formula One next season, to the point of dedicating the coming weeks to his physical preparation, Jaime Alguersuari admits today that, despite some contacts, he has not yet signed anything for 2013.
One should never count their chickens before they are hatched! Such could be the lesson that Jaime Alguersuari failed to apply, as he has been announcing his return to Formula One for several weeks, starting in 2013.
Thus, questioned by *Marca*, the former Toro Rosso driver and current development driver for Pirelli assured that he would be on the starting grids in 2013: « Yes, I will be racing, for sure. » The native of Barcelona even dropped a few hints by talking about a « team between fifth and seventh place in the constructors’ standings [and] which regularly scores points », in other words, Sauber or Force India.
However, the Spaniard who insisted that he wouldn’t have said anything if he weren’t sure, seems much less assertive today, probably due to the developments in the transfer market: « There have been contacts, and there is a bright future in Formula One. Of course, I have nothing signed on the table as I’m waiting to see what happens with the latest moves, » he confides today on the Spanish site Caranddriverthef1.com.
After Lewis Hamilton’s departure to Mercedes, Sergio Pérez’s arrival at McLaren, and the likely contract renewal of Felipe Massa at Ferrari, Jaime Alguersuari’s chances of returning seem to be melting away. Indeed, in the game of musical chairs, Paul di Resta and Nico Hülkenberg might not move after all, except perhaps to Sauber, while contenders are lining up at Hinwil’s doors to replace Sergio Pérez—and possibly Kamui Kobayashi. Thus, Jaime Alguersuari might have to contend not only with the Force India drivers but also with the competition from Sebastien Buemi, Heikki Kovalainen, and even Michael Schumacher.
