Official: Räikkönen extends with Lotus for 2013

After pulling the leg of a good portion of the specialized press on October 17th by announcing a new commercial partnership with a Finnish clothing brand, Kimi Räikkönen has now officially extended his contract with the Lotus F1 Team for the 2013 Formula 1 season.

After two years of absence, Iceman made his grand return to the premier category of motorsport this season. From the announcement of his return, it was understood that the agreement between the Finnish driver and his new team was for two seasons, with the 2013 contract being subject to performance clauses. Even though victory has eluded him so far, the 2012 record is more than positive with 6 podiums and a provisional third place in the world drivers’ championship. Enough for an official extension.

Räikkönen, who has often highlighted the good atmosphere within the Enstone team, will continue to defend its colors next year. Now, only the name of his teammate remains to be known. Romain Grosjean has not yet been renewed, although he should also still be part of the team for a second season in black and gold.
