Saturday: Marussia ahead of Caterham in Austin
Constantly improving over the past few races, the Russian team delivered a real performance by finishing ahead of the two Caterhams, with Timo Glock finishing ahead of Charles Pic. The Frenchman believes there was still better to be done but does not hide his pleasure.
Timo Glock – 19th and 19th:
« Another good day today. I think we focused on the right things, even though it was a challenge since FP3 to reach this stage because it’s difficult to nail a single good lap here. In qualifying, I felt like I did a good lap and the tires were really up to temperature, but towards the end, I had a bit of wheel lift and the rear seemed strange. I think we could have gone faster because the tires were improving a lot with each lap, but due to the yellow flag, there was no chance for improvements. However, we are almost eight-tenths ahead of the Caterhams, and we should be very happy about that. It’s a big step forward for the team, and even though we mention it every race now, we have achieved this without the advantage of KERS, and that’s significant. I am very excited for the race and hope we can continue the good work. »
Charles Pic – 22nd and 20th:
« It was a good qualifying session and the most important thing is that both our cars are ahead of the Caterhams. Looking into the details, I missed significant track time this morning due to the incident with Pérez, and we weren’t able to regain good feelings with the car at the end of FP3. There was more to be done in qualifying, for sure, and at the end of Q1, we encountered traffic. Overall, even if we didn’t fully optimize the package, I’m happy with where we are. It’s a fantastic result for the team and continuing to make progress in this new race is very positive. Now, we will focus on the race and take the time tonight to analyze the best way to play it to achieve a good result. Thanks to the whole team for this great work. »
