Sunday: Celebration Day at Red Bull for Vettel’s third title

Sebastian Vettel – 6th:

« It’s hard to imagine everything going through my mind right now; my body is filled with adrenaline. It was an incredible race, and everything that could have happened to make it more difficult for us today did happen! I got hit in turn 4 for no reason and ended up upside down; so I had to stay upright and was lucky that nobody hit me. The car was damaged, and we lost top speed, even more so when the track dried up, but thankfully, it started raining again. All weekend, people tried to push us in a certain direction and said that if it rained, it would be harder for us, but we proved today that we love rainy conditions just as much as we do dry ones.

I am really very, very happy. The most important thing throughout the season is that we kept attacking and stayed true to ourselves. We simply tried to stay on the path we know, and that made the difference. Some people tried to play games, but we were never distracted; we maintained our direction. Everyone at Milton Keynes and here at the circuit worked so hard, and we really raised our level in the second part of the season.

I would like to thank everyone on the team and at Renault. No one on the team feels more important than anyone else, we all work together, it’s a great strength and I’m proud of that. What has happened is unreal. Winning a third title, especially here where one of my heroes Ayrton Senna was from, it’s hard to find the words. I was crying in the car but my radio wasn’t working, so maybe I should be thankful for that! Tomorrow, I’ll probably be able to say more, but right now I just can’t find the words.

Mark Webber – 4th:

The race met expectations today and the conditions were obviously very tricky for all of us. We weren’t particularly strong today in terms of pace, and Seb and I were vulnerable to the restart, as well as the start of the race on slicks. I was hit quite hard on the inside, I think it was one of the Saubers, and we had to attack from there. We probably did everything we could today and made a good decision to switch to intermediates.

Regarding Sebastian, it was a great effort. He has now joined a rather exclusive club, and in a way, he even created his own, as the youngest world champion and now the youngest three-time world champion – we have to tip our hats to him for that.

The season went by so quickly, there were many winners, ups and downs, lots of accidents, and several interesting victories for me. I can’t wait for the holidays to arrive, to recharge, and then it will be 2013.
