The luxury watchmaker Rolex will become the official timekeeper of Formula 1 starting from the 2013 season. In a statement, the Swiss company specified that its involvement in Formula 1 is set to develop over the coming seasons.
Gian Riccardo Marini, Executive Director of the Geneva brand adds: « This is an important step for us at Rolex, as the alignment between Formula 1 and our brand is very natural. In their respective fields, Rolex and Formula 1 embody the spirit of adventure, extreme engineering, and a strong desire to push the limits of technology. These aspirations are extremely appealing to younger generations. Rolex watches are the symbol of the quest for the highest level of performance and reliability, which is embodied by Formula 1 »
On his part, Bernie Ecclestone is delighted with this new prestigious partnership: « Without a doubt, Rolex is a prime partner for a world-class sporting discipline like Formula 1. The prestige of the brand, the excellence of its watches, as well as Rolex’s long-standing passionate commitment to motorsports, gives it true credibility. This partnership is something that many people here were anticipating, and they must be excited about this association. Rolex has an incredible sporting heritage and therefore Formula 1 is the perfect place for them. »
Through this partnership, the Swiss manufacturer will have advertising spaces on the edges of Formula 1 circuits. In all likelihood, the competing brand Hublot will no longer be the official watchmaker of Formula 1, a position it has held since early 2010.
