Hamilton is confident he can win with Mercedes
The new Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, is confident that his new team can provide him with a competitive car. Although the true victory target is set for 2014, the British driver believes he can accomplish some great things as early as next year.
Lewis Hamilton is convinced that Mercedes’ resources will allow the team to progress quickly next season, in order to fully meet its victory objectives for the 2014 season.
The announcement of Lewis Hamilton’s signing with Mercedes had the effect of a bombshell in the world of Formula 1. Many people were questioning the real motivation of the British driver. But he is sure he made the right choice: « I think the guys have potential, and that’s why I joined them. I don’t see why we can’t try to secure a podium this year. If we can even get a few wins, if everything works well, then we will be smiling. But we will see. »
Certainly, the work will be complicated. The 2008 world champion is aware of the path that remains ahead for the Silver Arrows to consistently compete for victories: « It seems that in Brazil, Mercedes was 1.1 seconds behind. So we have a long, long climb ahead. But I think it’s possible, » he stated to Sky Sport News.
However, the influence of the British driver within his new team is not expected to be felt immediately. That is why the declared goal is rather set for the 2014 season: « I will not get into the car before February. Therefore, I will not have any influence for at least six months. I really think that 2014 will be the most important and competitive year. »
But his new career orientation doesn’t prevent the Englishman from observing what’s happening elsewhere. He is, for example, convinced that McLaren will be capable of achieving great things in 2013. And he’s well-positioned to know: « I am confident about their car for next year. This year’s car was already impressive, and the 2013 one will be an evolution. They will fight for the championship, that’s for sure! »
