Sutil believes he did his job
Adrian Sutil was behind the wheel of the Force India yesterday. At the end of the day, the German driver met with the press to talk about his testing session and his hopes for a possible return to the grid in 2013.
Yesterday was marked by the return of Adrian Sutil behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. A year after being let go by Force India, the German was once again in the cockpit of an Indian single-seater for the third day of testing at the Barcelona circuit, hoping to be on the starting grid in Melbourne in March.
« They know me better than any other team. I spent six years with this team. I think I showed today that I am still fast and that’s the most important thing, » Sutil reacted last night in front of a crowd of journalists.
Tuesday, Alonso explained that resuming after the winter break is never easy for the neck, which always suffers more in the car. Last night, Adrian Sutil had no complaints in that regard: « Tomorrow I might feel a bit sore, but for now everything is fine. I’ve continued to train over the past months. You never know what might happen. Last year I was waiting for someone to be sidelined so I could jump into the car. I trained a lot, but it’s always different in the car. »
Even though a rumor suggested that Narain Karthikeyan was also interested in the last available seat for 2013, it seems that it will ultimately be between Sutil and Bianchi. “I don’t know who has the best chance. I’ve done everything I can to come back, and now it’s up to the team to decide. There are three weeks left before Melbourne, so it’s time to confirm the drivers,” explains Sutil.
Adrian Sutil knows that the times set won’t be the only factor in securing the Force India seat, but it’s out of his hands: There is business. Some say there are probably negotiations around the 2014 engine at play. I don’t know. For me, the most important thing was to deliver a strong performance here. I did my job. I had a good day, it was important for me. So I can sleep peacefully.
