Chilton: “The situation is perfect for me”
The greatest uncertainty surrounds the Marussia drivers' lineup. Luiz Razia, although confirmed a few weeks ago by the Anglo-Russian team, has only participated in one testing session due to issues with his sponsors. However, this situation suits the other Marussia driver, Max Chilton, perfectly as he is offered more time on the track.
Many were surprised by the absence of Luiz Razia during the last two preseason testing sessions in Barcelona. The Brazilian driver explained that problems with one of his sponsors, who hadn’t paid the amount due to the Marussia team following his commitment, were the reason.
In the meantime, the other Anglo-Russian team regular, Max Chilton, is taking advantage of the situation to perfect his experience by completing all the tests with Marussia, while his program was originally supposed to be shared with Razia: « The situation is perfect for me. For the team, if you have the same driver every day, the feedback is much better and consistent. It really works well. »
Chilton is therefore satisfied with the situation and his first tests: « I am happy with my progress. I have really started to learn quite a lot. We had a bit of rain on Thursday but in the end, it wasn’t so bad. I wouldn’t have wanted to race in wet conditions without having tested the intermediate and rain tires. I did a lot of laps with these two types of tires, so I didn’t waste my time. It doesn’t really help the team because we would need more time on a dry track, but for me, it’s not a problem at all. »
Rumors suggest that Narain Karthikeyan could take the seat of the second Marussia, but there is also talk of Heikki Kovalainen replacing Luiz Razia if he does not quickly resolve his financial issues.
