Sunday: Mixed Debut for Sauber
The Sauber team did not expect to experience such an Australian Grand Prix, especially with the fuel system problem detected on Nico Hülkenberg's car, preventing him from taking part in the race. Esteban Gutiérrez started far back on the grid but managed to climb up and see the checkered flag. The Swiss team intends to bounce back next weekend in Malaysia.
Nico Hülkenberg – Did not start:
« I am bitterly disappointed with what happened today, but at the same time, I blame no one. These things happen in motorsport. What bothers me particularly is losing all the mileage today, which is very important especially at the start of the season. It would have given me a lot of data and information for the upcoming races. Melbourne is not a good place for me. It was my third Grand Prix here and it’s the third time I leave with nothing. The only good thing is that the next race is happening as soon as next weekend. »
Esteban Gutiérrez – 13th:
« My main goal was to finish the race, and achieving it is really very satisfying. I want to thank the whole team, because yesterday during qualifying, we had a good chance and today we were able to recover a bit of what we lost yesterday. We have a good base and for the future, we will try to move forward and attack. »
