Alonso openly criticizes Red Bull
In the evening of his excellent race in Australia, which saw him finish in second position ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso spoke about the underperformance of the Red Bulls. According to him, the Austrian team and its drivers are unable to make the most of their cars.
Once again, Fernando Alonso seems to have extracted the maximum from what his Ferrari could offer him in Australia. After a somewhat disappointing qualifying, the Spanish driver managed to take second place in the Grand Prix, notably ahead of the two Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, who had started from the front row of the grid.
This leads the double world champion to say that the Austrian team and its drivers are not managing to exploit the full potential of their cars: « I don’t ask to have a car that is a second faster than everyone else, but just one with which I can fight. Red Bull won two of its three titles in the last race, and that with a car that was a second faster than the rest of the field. Getting the most out of what they have doesn’t seem to be one of their virtues. »
Alonso illustrates his remarks by taking the example of the first Grand Prix of this season: « It’s always the same thing, they are first and second in qualifying, and then something always happens to them. Sometimes it’s the start or reliability or the tires. »
However, the Ferrari driver still thinks that Red Bull is the team to beat and it remains the fastest on the grid this season: « Red Bull is the fastest car right now, first and second in qualifying, first and second in practice, then in the race they fell back a bit, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t the fastest. »
