Button, Alonso and Massa do not understand Vettel’s reaction
Following Sebastian Vettel's statements on the sidelines of the Chinese Grand Prix concerning his actions during the race in Sepang, several other drivers reacted to his remarks, such as Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, and Felipe Massa, who do not seem to be in the same frame of mind as the German triple world champion.
Before starting the third race of the season in China, Sebastian Vettel wanted to clarify the situation regarding his action during the Malaysian Grand Prix, where he ignored his team’s orders to overtake his teammate Mark Webber and win the race.
The German, while admitting he was wrong, also claims that he wouldn’t apologize for winning this race, which, according to him, is what his employers trust him for, and if the opportunity arose again, he would surely do the same thing.
But some of his fellow drivers are far from sharing his view. Jenson Button, for example, struggles to understand Vettel’s reaction: « I’m surprised he said that. Many drivers have won the world championship without doing that. He’s a talented driver, and his team seems to love him. And they are right because he wins. He seems to be an easygoing person. It’s surprising coming from him that he said that.
On his side, Fernando Alonso stated that he would comply without objection to his team’s instructions, even if they were against his favor: « I don’t think I have been in this situation before. But I guess I should hold my position. We all have our duties, and I suppose we must respect them at all times. At the end of the day, your team pays you, and you more or less do what they ask of you. »
Felipe Massa, for his part, aligns with the same opinion as his teammate. The Brazilian, who has often been a victim of team orders in the past, is not opposed to their existence: « I am not against team orders if they are smart and come at the right time. I have helped many drivers, even Kimi Räikkönen to help him win the championship, and Fernando last year in important races when he was fighting for the title. As long as the order is intelligent, I have no problem. But sometimes, it is not very clever and I don’t like it. »
