Saturday: A solid qualifying session at Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel will start tomorrow alongside the poleman, Nico Rosberg, and he is delighted about it. Mark Webber will start a bit further back, in 7th position after his penalty was applied, but the Australian believes he can move up during the race and will therefore aim to secure a good result for what will be his 200th Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel – 2nd and 2nd:
« I am not disappointed with my position. Congratulations to Nico, he did a very good lap and it was his day. When I crossed the line, I saw that I was second and I didn’t know the gap to pole because my lap was good. When I was told the gap to pole, it was clear that even with a perfect lap, he was unbeatable today, but I am still happy. We managed to save tires during this qualifying and tire degradation will be a key factor tomorrow, so we will see what happens. It’s nice to be able to start in front. »
Mark Webber – 3rd and 5th [7th on the grid]:
« I would have liked to be able to extract a bit more from the car during this session and be slightly better placed, but being 7th with a penalty is not the end of the world. We have a different tire strategy from some others and the Grand Prix will be long, so we’ll see what happens. I am proud to participate in my 200th Grand Prix tomorrow. When I was a young driver entering Formula 1, I never thought I would be in this sport for so long. I’ve had incredible moments and some more difficult ones as well, but that’s top-level sport. I have learned a lot over the years, about myself and life in general, and my driving is still very good for the sport; I still take a lot of pleasure from it. It’s just another number, but it would be nice to achieve a good result for this milestone. »
