Schumacher soon back behind the wheel of an F1 at the Nordschleife

After ending what is commonly referred to as his second career in Formula 1 at the end of last year, Michael Schumacher will soon be back behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car and not on just any circuit.

Indeed, the seven-time German world champion will take the wheel of the 2011 Mercedes F1 W02 on the legendary Nordschleife track on May 19th, as part of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

The German driver, recently named Ambassador of Mercedes, is eagerly anticipating this moment as he revealed in the press release: “I have many good memories of the Nürburgring, and I really look forward to offering the fans and my friends from my hometown of Kerpen, which is near the Nürburgring, a memorable moment as they will see me drive. But it will also be a fantastic experience for me, driving on the Nordschleife in a modern Silver Arrow, especially because the legend of the Silver Arrows started here. Doing a lap behind the wheel of a modern Silver Arrow on the world’s most beautiful and widely used track, what a brilliant mix – it’s the dream of any motorsport driver!”

This dream, Nick Heidfeld was already able to fulfill in April 2007, driving the BMW Sauber F1.06. For safety reasons, the German’s car had to run with hard demonstration tires, maximum ride height, and a top speed limited to 275 km/h.
