Vergne encouraged by the new features introduced in Barcelona
Jean-Eric Vergne expressed satisfaction with the new developments introduced by the Toro Rosso team in Barcelona. This has brought a significant performance gain and gives him a lot of hope for the parts that will arrive in the upcoming Grand Prix races.
Jean-Eric Vergne drove a Toro Rosso today with a few new features added for this Spanish Grand Prix, and the Frenchman was delighted with the improvements brought by these updates.
The car has improved significantly. The new updates are quite good since we’ve clearly seen a gain in performance. However, it’s only Friday, so we’re not going to get carried away even if we’re happy to be here. We’ll work overnight to try to improve. We won’t rest. It’s a bit more stable, it’s very good in traction from what we’ve seen, JEV confided during a press briefing in Barcelona, also stating that the exhausts/underfloor combination was the most prolific in his opinion.
Vergne is optimistic about the rest of the “European season” as new parts should follow those brought to Barcelona: « I think today has been a very good day. It was clearly our best Friday in a long time. Besides that, I would say that the fact that the improvements made are working gives a lot of hope for what’s to come because we have a lot of new developments planned for the upcoming Grand Prix. We have been following a path since the beginning of the season that we are sticking to, so it encourages us a lot. »
If he did not want to speculate on a possible result for the qualifications, he is rather confident for the race, although there is still work to be done regarding the tires: « Tire wear is as expected. There was quite a bit of graining at the front, especially the left one, so I think we’ll try to improve that for the race, but in general, the rear tires are pretty good. »
