Bianchi continues to gather experience
Jules Bianchi saw the checkered flag for the 5th time in 5 races since the start of the season, which satisfies him. He is delighted with the experience thus gained and also with the innovations brought by Marussia, which have allowed the MR03 to be more competitive.
Jules Bianchi experienced a complicated Spanish Grand Prix, notably after colliding with a car in the second corner, which forced him to make an early stop, causing him to lose a lot of time.
The Marussia driver, however, stated during his press briefing of the day that he was satisfied with his race, particularly thanks to the performance boost provided by the new parts: « It’s a good thing for us to have finished the Grand Prix, a difficult race despite a very good performance on the track since I had a small collision at the beginning, I broke my front wing and because of that, I had to make an extra stop and in the end, we had a very good pace in the race so it’s a shame but it’s positive since we saw that we have progressed very well compared to Bahrain. We have to continue like this. »
Bianchi thinks that without his incident at the start, he could have done even better: « I had a good start. Then, at turn 2, it suddenly slowed down in front of me and I couldn’t avoid the car in front of me and I touched it a bit, I broke my front wing and then I just tried to do the best race possible even with this handicap to finish not far from Charles [Pic] or Bottas. So I think it’s rather a good race. »
On the tire degradation side and the race in general, he did not expect to be shaken so much: « It was a bit harder than expected since it didn’t go as we wanted and clearly, I had to push hard throughout the race to try to catch up with the people in front, with the drivers ahead of me, so it was a bit harder than expected but in the end, it was still a good race. »
As in the previous four Grand Prix, the Frenchman saw the checkered flag and it’s a good thing for him to gain so much experience: « It’s a great satisfaction for us to be able to finish the Grand Prix like this, so now we need to continue and try to find a bit of performance for the upcoming races. »
