Sauber team in search of sponsors
The two Sauber cars ran during testing yesterday in Monaco but not under the eyes of Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn, who were occupied elsewhere to find new partners for the Swiss team.
The Sauber F1 team is of course present in Monaco this week for the Formula 1 Grand Prix taking place in the Principality, but yesterday during the first day of running, the two main team leaders, Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn, were not present.
Nico Hülkenberg and Esteban Gutiérrez therefore drove but not under the eyes of their bosses, who were – according to Roger Benoit, the correspondent for the Swiss newspaper Blick – somewhere in Eastern Europe to find sponsors.
The Swiss team is a private team and therefore does not have the support of a manufacturer – as was the case with BMW – and managing financial costs is an important part of the team’s daily operations. Moreover, the team has yet to announce the name of its engine supplier for 2014, but with the arrival of the 1.6L V6 Turbo engines in 2014 – which will be more expensive than the V8s – Sauber seems to need to find new partners to absorb this additional cost.
