Trulli delighted not to race in an F1 dominated by tires
Jarno Trulli left Formula 1 at the end of 2011, and the Italian, with 256 Grand Prix races to his name, has expressed that he is quite pleased not to be a racing driver anymore in a Formula 1 World Championship dominated by tires.
Jarno Trulli left Formula 1 two years ago after being dropped by the Caterham team in favor of Vitaly Petrov. And while this matter doesn’t seem to be over yet, the Italian driver has moved on from Formula 1. He now focuses on his vineyard, among other things.
But Trulli – the last Italian driver to have raced in Formula 1 for the moment – was recently interviewed by La Stampa to find out if he was sorry not to be on the F1 grid this season, he replied: « No, not really ».
The native of Pescara – who raced in F1 for 15 seasons, was part of 6 teams and experienced 3 manufacturers (Bridgestone, Michelin, and Pirelli) – was quite critical of the direction Formula 1 Grand Prix have taken since Pirelli’s arrival: « Now, all you hear are engineers telling drivers to slow down, take care of their tires, be cautious. Is this really Formula 1? I was told to just attack, attack, attack. I’m glad I’m no longer part of it. »
