Friday: Maldonado gets caught out in the rain, Bottas learns
In difficult conditions, Pastor Maldonado got caught out this morning in Montreal, damaging his Williams. However, the Venezuelan was still able to drive this afternoon and complete the scheduled test program. Valtteri Bottas, for his part, took advantage of every second on track to get accustomed to this new circuit for him.
Pastor Maldonado – 21st and 14th:
« The conditions were difficult this morning. There was a dry line towards the end of free practice 1, but with cold tires, I put a wheel off the line and went off. This afternoon was better as we completed our full program; however, we still need to work on improving the car and need to focus on getting the tires to work faster. Despite the changing weather conditions, we collected a lot of data today that we will be able to evaluate before qualifying tomorrow. »
Valtteri Bottas 12th and 16th:
« The first session was quite tricky for everyone and difficult to test anything because the track was drying towards the end. This afternoon was good for us because we did a lot of short and long runs to gather data. Nevertheless, it’s hard to know where we are based on today’s sessions. It’s my first time driving here in Montreal and it was good to get some laps in and I really enjoy this track. Overall, I am positive after this day, but we still need to analyze the data before deciding which parts and settings we will use for the rest of the weekend. »
