Friday: Bianchi and Chilton Discover Montreal with Marussia
The inexperienced duo of drivers from the Marussia team took their first steps on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal. While both men enjoyed their first contact with the Quebec track, Jules Bianchi experienced a very short first free practice session, whereas Max Chilton was able to enjoy a generally uneventful day.
Max Chilton – 19th and 21st:
« So far, so good for my first outing on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. It’s a great track; I love it. This morning, our track time was subject to conditions that were constantly improving. We had aero work to do with the prototype tires, so we could focus on race preparation this afternoon. We managed to tackle that, so we accomplished everything we needed to do and ended the day with plenty of data to look at tonight. It’s never the best conditions to have your first experience with a new circuit, but I’m satisfied with where we are so far and I look forward to the rest of the weekend. »
Jules Bianchi – 22nd and 19th:
« The track conditions were very tricky at the start of FP1 and, unfortunately, I got caught in a wet part of the circuit. I only completed 8 laps, which was very frustrating because it’s a new track for me, and we also had a busy aero program to do this morning. I’m happy I was able to make up for lost time and happy with how the first day ended. I really enjoyed my first experience with this track, so it’s a shame the start wasn’t smoother, but I think we’re back in a good position for the rest of the weekend. »
